Take time to know someone
- Watch how they handle disappointment, boundaries and responsibility.
- Keep your friendships, education, work and goals.
- Do not ignore pressure, jealousy, secrecy or controlling behaviour.
- A baby does not fix an unstable relationship.
Before sex
- Make sure both people freely consent and can change their mind.
- Discuss condoms, contraception and STI testing before the moment.
- Avoid decisions while intoxicated or under pressure.
- Use confidential NHS sexual-health services for accurate advice.
Before planning a baby
Talk honestly about housing, income, childcare, work, family support, faith and values, parenting expectations and what happens if the relationship ends.
